Arabian Peninsula in 1836. Iraq is named Ottoman Asia in the picture

Iraq starts as a part of the Ottoman Empire Ottoman Empire where it usually stays. Iraq can form Arabia, and if Arabia Arabia is formed it will gain Iraq as a core.

Iraq can form Babylon Babylon. The player can't see the decision to begin with, but it becomes available when Iraq reaches great power. Then one can build The Tower of Babel and form Babylon. The formation is considered an easter egg. This makes Iraq one of the only nations in the game, that can potentially form two different and unrelated nations.

Playing Iraq

To have the best chance of playing a successful Iraq game, one ought to release most or all nations from the Ottoman Empire and sue for white peace with Tripoli Tripoli. Eventually the Turks will fall from Great Power status and Iraq can focus on on expansion. Keep relations with Persia Persia above 100 and expand into Nejd Nejd as quickly as possible. If you have kept your Ottoman armies you should have 2 infantry brigades as well as some irregulars and cavalry, this will make conquering your neighbour incredibly easy, especially if Hedjaz Hedjaz or Yemen Yemen allies with you. After a few years you should have passed a few reforms to improve your army and economy; this is the point where you ought to expand either into Hedjaz (who will have lost ties to the Ottoman Empire and will not be 'friendly' towards them), or Yemen.

National focus ought to always be placed on either maintaining troops numbers or increasing Clergymen mini.pngclergymen to 4% until you westernise and then you should focus on chemistry techs to avoid outbreaks of disease.

Iraq is fortunate in that it can draw on quite a large population and other than Persia (and the Ottomans if you seriously screw up), you should have no problem in knocking about your neighbours.
