A view of Khiva and the surrounding nations in 1836

Khiva is an Uncivilised, Landlocked Nation located in Central Asia. It is coloured in brown and borders Persia Persia, Bukkhara Bukkhara and Afghanistan Afghanistan in the south, Bukkhara and Kokand Kokand in the east, Russia Russia in the north and uncolonised territory in the west.

It is one of the Turkic Khanates, along with Bukkhara and Kokand.

Technology

Khiva is an uncivilised nation, it will have to civilise before being able to research new technologies. Khiva's literacy is at extremely low 3% at the start of the game and Clergymen mini.pngclergymen provide 1.37 research points. Khiva is at 0% of its westernisation process.

Diplomacy

Khiva doesn't start in a great power's sphere of influence, but with a relatively good relation with Bukkhara (60). Therefore, they are the natural ally, although they often get attacked by Afghanistan. Often Russia will sphere Khiva, and in that Khiva have all the protection they need.

Military

Khiva starts with 6 brigades out of 6 possible brigades in 1 army:

  • Army of the Khanate of Khiva: consisting of 6 brigades totalling 18.000 troops, all cavalry, located in Khiva, with no leader.

Strategy

Early in the game one should use national focus to promote Clergymen mini.pngclergymen, as the literacy rate of Kokand is atrocious.

Annexing Kokand and Bukkhara is key, as they have more of Kokands primary culture POPs and they give research points. Bukkhara can be annexed outright with the annex casus belli, but Kokand will require multiple wars. Afghanistan will most likely attack Bukkhara as they have a core on one of their provinces. One might be able to time the attack so that Bukkhara has lost all of its troops, making for an extraordinarily easy war. When Bukkhara is annexed, Khiva should be no problem to annex.

Russia will most likely attack Khiva with a demand concession casus belli. There is nothing one can do to withstand the Russian troops, and the best idea is likely to give up as soon as they attack, in order not to lose troops in a futile war.

After having annexed Bukkhara and possibly Kokand, there are several ways to proceed. Attacking Panjab Panjab, Afghanistan or Persia might be possible, if they are in a temporary weak spot. Xinjiang is also possible, if there has been a revolution in China China and Xinjiang has thus broken free from being a substate. It might later pose problems though, as China has cores on Xinjiang.
