Artisans are a POP type. They are members of the middle strata of the population. Artisans independently produce goods in low quantities and this is their source of income. Artisans require resources in order to produce goods and cannot work if they cannot afford the resources to produce goods. This can cause a problem where artisans become trapped in an endless cycle of poverty which can be caused by overtaxation or price drops in the market which usually ends when the artisan demote or promotes to a different class. Artisans are the only means of producing manufactured goods until the construction of factories.
