'''Hanover''' is a north German monarchy, being one of the northernmost German states. While it begins as a satellite to the {{flag|United Kingdom}}, after [[Coronation of Queen Victoria]] early on in the game, it will be released and quickly sphered by Prussia. Historically, the Kingdom of Hanover was formed in 1815 at the Congress of Vienna to give George III his territories in Germany prior to the Napoleonic Wars, ruled by the House of Hanover in personal union with [[Great Britain]]. In 1866, during the [[Austro-Prussian War]], it was conquered by Prussia and made a province. It can become a [[Secondary Power]] (at least) fairly easily and makes a decent non-{{flag|Prussia}}n candidate to form {{flag|Germany}}.

== Overview ==
It borders {{flag|Hamburg}}, {{flag|Holstein}}, and {{flag|Mecklenburg}} to the northeast, the Baltic Sea, {{flag|Oldenburg}}, and {{flag|Bremen}} to the north, the {{flag|Netherlands}} to the west, {{flag|Prussia}}, {{flag|Lippe-Detmold}}, and {{flag|Braunschweig}} to the south. Its enclave of Göttingen also borders {{flag|Hesse-Kassel}} to the south. The kingdom has the advantages of starting off with a high [[literacy]] rate, as with all other German states, but also a decent army of five brigades: four part of the ''Hannöverische Armee'', based at Hanover, and one part of ''Korps Göttingen'' in the small enclave.

== Initial position ==
The kingdom starts out as a satellite state of the United Kingdom and unable to manage its own foreign policy. During the early years, your [[diplomatic points]] will build up until Hanover is released from the UK's control when Queen Victoria is coronated. At that point the country would be able to ally the German minors that it borders, and have them aid in war. 

One unique [[decision]] that Hanover can eventually take is "[[Introduce the Presbyteries]]", which lowers the average [[militancy]] of all {{icon|Protestant}}[[religion|Protestant]] POPs by {{green|1}}. At the beginning of the game 88% of the population is Protestant, so it is quite a large part of the population. Note that it cannot be taken as another nation, so make sure to take it before forming [[NGF]] or [[Germany]].

=== Becoming a Great Power ===
Rising to [[Great Power]] status is possible without conquering any territory as Hanover has more than one state. It can be done fairly quickly if Hanover research [[Romanticism]] and [[Realism]] (culture techs) and [[Medicine]] (Industrial techs) which all give [[prestige]]. That great power status is however temporary, and probably will not be enough to match [[Prussia]] in the long run.
